- Motul-backed #1 Tomoki Nojiri secures strong P2 finish during his comeback race
- Team Mugen continues run of strong performances with Motul’s engine oils
- Motul team remains top of Super Formula team championship
Motul-supported Team Mugen achieved another impressive podium finish during the fifth round of the 2023 Super Formula Championship, held on June 17-18 at Sportsland Sugo in Murata, Japan. After missing Round 4 to recover from prior injuries, #1 Tomoki Nojiri delivered an exceptional performance, finishing in second place.
Throughout the season, the team’s talented drivers, Nojiri and his teammate Liam Lawson, have showcased their exceptional skills with Motul proudly powering both #1 and #15 Red Bull MOTUL MUGEN SF23 cars. However, the Sugo circuit’s twisty, technical layout, and mix of high and low-speed corners made the fifth round intense for both drivers. As rivals get faster, Motul remains committed in supporting Team Mugen during upcoming rounds to improve their precision and strategy to keep up with the competition.
Team Mugen has consistently exceeded their limits and excelled in each round, thanks to the high-performance engine oil MS-P 0W-30, developed in partnership with Mugen and specifically curated by Motul for Super Formula. After every race, Motul gathers feedback from the drivers to enhance their oils for the best possible performance. Their innovative MS-P 0W-30 oil improves airtightness of piston rings, allowing peak power at low engine speeds, ultimately contributing to better driver ability. It reduces blow-by of combustion gases, prevents viscosity reduction, and provides crucial protection to turbochargers and engines.
Motul’s partnership with Team Mugen is a clear demonstration of their commitment to excellence, continuous innovation, and product improvement for the benefit of their customers. Motul’s dedication to delivering high-performance motor oil is unwavering, as they strive to offer the best possible products to customers, whether they are on the racetrack or on the road. With their partnership with Team Mugen, Motul looks to achieve even greater success on the track, while also developing new technologies and techniques to improve their products for all customers.
Thanks to the brilliant performances of both drivers and Motul’s support in Super Formula, Team Mugen is currently leading the teams’ championship with 110 points. In the drivers’ standings, Lawson is currently in second place with 63 points with 12 points adrift from the lead, followed closely by Nojiri with 58 points. For the next round at Fuji, Team Mugen is determined to continue their strong run of podium finishes.
Tomoki Nojiri | Driver, #1 Team Mugen “Despite feeling anxious throughout the race week, I’m glad I persevered and secured a strong 2nd place finish. The physically demanding Sugo circuit didn’t stop me from fighting until the end, especially since I put my trust in Motul and have a lot of confidence in their oils to push my car to its limit. Although I faced challenging moments throughout the race, I stayed resilient and powered through. Looking ahead, I’m eager to face the next race at Fuji with determination. Going forward with the official test at Fuji before the race, I’m focused on building a solid foundation to prepare for a successful comeback with the help of Motul for the rest of the season.”
