Victory in Sepang seals historic second in the MotoGP™ WorldChampionship for Álex Marquez as Pedro Acosta gets second podium in three races.
After securing second in the 2025 MotoGP™ World Championship standings with a runner-up finish in Saturday’s sprint race, Álex Marquez raced to a dominant victory in the Malaysian Grand Prix at a sweltering Sepang International Circuit, leading home fellow Spaniard Pedro Acosta. Here is all you need to know:
– Second place behind Francesco Bagnaia in the Sprint on Saturday secured the Gresini Racing Ducati secured Márquez the points he needed to wrap-up second place in the Riders’ Championship and register an historic family 1–2 behind brother Marc – the first in MotoGP™ history.
– With the pressure off, Márquez attacked early in the GP. Starting from second on the grid, he made a brilliant pass on early race leader Bagnaia on Lap 2 and was never challenged again as he pulled away to win from Acosta by 2.676s at the finish.
– After starting from fifth on the grid, Red Bull KTM pilot Acosta made early moves into third and was engaged in a thrilling back-and-forward battle with Bagnaia from Lap through until Lap 12, when he was finally able to make a pass that stuck. From there he rode clear of the chasing pack to secure his second podium finish in three races.
– Italian Enea Bastianini was the second KTM rider to come home after a strong ride through the field to seventh place, while Brad Binder made it three Red Bull KTM’s inside the top 10 with a ninth place.
– Johann Zarco finished the Grand Prix in 12th place, two positions ahead of Jack Miller in 14th, while Somkiat Chantra had one of his best races of the season to finish in 15th.
