GT giants set to take on Guia Circuit in Macau GT Cup – FIA GT World Cup
The famous Guia circuit will host the world’s elite GT drivers from November 13th to 16th as they do battle for the Macau GT Cup – FIA GT World Cup 2025. The crown is one of the biggest prizes in global GT racing and a must-win for both drivers and manufacturers, with six of the world’s greatest automobile names represented on the grid.
This year a star-studded line-up will head to Macao with several previous champions looking to add to their legacy, plus a host of drivers on the hunt for their first taste of Guia Circuit glory.
The list of previous winners starts with ‘Mr Macao’ Edoardo Mortara who will be on the grid in an Absolute Corse Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo 2. The Swiss star will be looking for a fifth Macau GT Cup crown, which would revive his status as the race’s outright record-holding champion after Maro Engel levelled him on four wins last year.
A victory for Mortara would also mark a return to the Macao winner’s circle for Lamborghini for the first time since back-to-back wins for Keita Sawa in 2009 and 2010. Luca Engstler, in a second Lamborghini, completes a strong line-up for Absolute Corse.
Another previous winner on the grid is Raffaele Marciello, who reigned supreme on the Guia Circuit in 2019 and 2023 as a Mercedes driver. These days he is aligned with BMW and will this year race a ROWE Racing BMW M4, marking his second Macao start for the Bavarian marque. He will be joined in the BMW camp by rapid South African Sheldon van der Linde from Team WRT who is among those looking for a breakthrough Macau GT Cup – FIA GT World Cup victory.
Porsche is the most-represented manufacturer on the grid with a total of five 911 GT3 Rs. Two come from the Tempo by Absolute Racing stable, with 2016 Macau GT Cup champion Laurens Vanthoor joined by Alessio Picariello. SCHUMACHER CLRT has two Porsches in the field for 2025 DTM champion Ayhancan Güven and Laurin Heinrich, while Frenchman Dorian Boccolacci is in the Phantom Global Racing entry.
Ferrari is one brand that has not yet won the race, a streak it will look to end with a three-car line-up headed by Antonio Fuoco in the AF Corse SRL 296 GT3. The other Ferraris on the grid will be raced by Deng Yi at Winhere Motorsports, and the legendary Italian marque’s first-ever Chinese official factory driver Ye Yifei, entered with Harmony Racing. Ye also became the first Chinese driver to win the Le Mans 24 Hours earlier this year, and takes on the Guia Circuit for the second time in his career.
Audi, looking for its first Macau GT Cup – FIA GT World Cup success since Vanthoor’s win in 2016, has three cars on the grid. FAW Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom brings speedy German Christopher Haase. Swede Joel Eriksson, racing for Audi Sport Asia Team Phantom, is a new addition to Audi’s roster and will prepare for Macao by contesting the GT World Challenge Asia finale in Beijing. The other Audi on the grid is long-time Macau Grand Prix favourite Adderly Fong in the Uno Racing Team R8 LMS GT3 evo II.
Rounding out the field is a McLaren 720S GT3 from Optimum Motorsport that will be driven by Benjamin Goethe.
Adding to the excitement for the 2025 Macau GT Cup – FIA GT World Cup is the brand-new addition of a ‘Super Pole’ session to help set the grid for Saturday’s 12-lap Qualification Race. First there will be a regular 30-minute qualifying session, the fastest 10 drivers from which will get a crack at the Super Pole. All ten will get the Guia Circuit to themselves for two qualifying laps, on brand new tyres, which promises to be a thrilling fight for pole. The shootout will be followed by the Qualification Race, and then Sunday’s 16-lap finale that decides the Macau GT Cup – FIA GT World Cup champion of 2025.
