Davey Todd and Peter Hickman Lead Intriguing International Line-up for Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix – 57th Edition
The 2025 Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix will take place from November 13-16, with Zeeco BMW Motorrad stars Davey Todd and Peter Hickman headlining the 20-strong entry for the 57th edition of the two-wheel spectacular around the 6.2km Guia Circuit.
Thirty-year-old Todd was declared the winner of last year’s rain-affected event, and returns to Macao for a fifth time with the aim of burnishing his Macao credentials. Hickman, meanwhile, will be on the hunt for a fifth win is he chases the record of nine victories held by fellow Briton Michael Rutter.
Finland’s Erno Kostamo (Racing for Inclusion by RVS), the 2022 Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix winner, was runner-up to Todd last year, and all three riders will return to do battle aboard M1000RR BMW superbikes.
Todd will arrive in Macao as a three-time TT victor after a brilliant win over Michael Dunlop in this year’s Superbike race. The Englishman also claimed a victorious treble at the North West 200 in May to emphasize his current standing as one of road racing’s biggest stars.
Todd’s team-mate Hickman has had a more challenging 2025 season. An incident at the TT saw the 14-time Mountain Course winner sustain injuries during practice week. Happily, however, Hickman has now recovered and returned to competition in the British Superbike championship in mid- September.
The 20-strong 2025 Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix field includes a host of racers with an abundance of Guia Circuit experience.
On equally-competitive BMW machinery, there is little doubt that Kostamo is more than capable of taking the fight to the TT winners in this year’s starting line-up. Aside from his 2022 Macao triumph, the Finn is best known for his exploits on his home track at Imatra where he has claimed victories over both Hickman and Dunlop in the Superbike class during recent seasons. At this year’s North West 200, Kostamo claimed a string of top ten results as he led home established stars like Josh Brookes, Conor Cummins and John McGuinness.
Amongst the other BMW entrants are Belgium’s Laurent Hoffman Hoffmann and LM by MRP), a double winner of the International Road Racing Superbike championship, and Macao veteran Sam West (Moto Hub). French racer, Almaric Blanc, the quickest Macao newcomer twelve months ago, will also return to the event aboard another M1000RR, this time with Team Abel Bro.
The Isle of Man will be represented by Manx Grand Prix winner Michael Evans, riding a Jackson Racing Powered by Proposer 2 Honda Fireblade alongside last year’s newcomer and rising star Marcus Simpson, on the WH Racing powered by Dynobike CBR1000. The Isle of Wight’s Ryan Whitehall, another 2024 Macao newcomer, will also return on his WR Racing R1 Yamaha.
The Irish contingent will be led by Paul Jordan on a Jackson Racing/Prosper 2 Honda alongside Michael Sweeney on his Martin Jones Racing BMW. Jordan has enjoyed an impressive summer, winning a Supertwin race at the North West 200 in May and claiming his first success around the Mountain Course in the Historic Junior Classic TT race in August.
Two hugely-experienced road racers could also make their own mark on the Guia Circuit this November. David Johnson, a podium finisher on his PBM Ducati in the 2019 race, missed last year’s event through injury. The Australian is now returning to the fray in November on a Racing for Inclusion by RVS M1000RR.
Having enjoyed an impressive 2025 campaign with the experienced SMT Racing team, Rob Hodson will also be hoping to end his season on a Macao high. A strong result on the Guia Circuit would bring the curtain down on a season in which the Wigan man finished runner-up in the first Supertwin TT behind Dunlop, and claimed a top six result in the opening Supersport TT before racing to a brilliant victory in the Twins class at the Southern 100.
The 2025 Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix line-up also includes several newcomers who have made a strong impression on the roads during the past summer. Thirty-one-year-old Kiwi rider Mitch Rees, riding for Jackson Racing powered by Proposer 2 in Macao, is a multiple New Zealand Superbike champion who was the leading newcomer at this year’s North West 200 and Isle of Man TT where he raced with the Padgett’s Honda squad.
Rees will be joined in Macao by Englishman Don Gilbert (WR Racing), a regular competitor at Scarborough’s Oliver’s Mount plus the North West 200 and Manx Grand Prix. San Marino’s Maurizio Bottalico, the 2025 Supersport and Superbike European Hill Climb champion, will also make his Macao debut this year under Phil Crowe’s Croweperformance / Bottalico banner.
One familiar name absent from 2025 line-up is Rutter, who will be sitting out the event as he continues to recover from back injuries sustained at Isle of Man TT in June.
